How to get external video signal in Fermax Monitors

This document explains how to send the external video signal, coming from some cameras through a video recorder, to all monitors of the system, using a video switcher, or directly connected to the auxiliary video input of one VDS Smile Monitor.
It is possible to show a 4 cameras mosaic in the monitor screen, or, the camera of the panel, holding the camera button on the monitor during 2 seconds.
Additionally, there is an option to connect an external analogue camera to the Smile monitor and use it as a CCTV image. This camera´s image appears on the monitor when we select the CCTV function.

This document explains how to send the external video signal, coming from some cameras through a video recorder, to all monitors of the system, using a video switcher, or directly connected to the auxiliary video input of one VDS Smile Monitor.

It is possible to show a 4 cameras mosaic in the monitor screen, or, the camera of the panel, holding the camera button on the monitor during 2 seconds.

  • Connections.
  1. VDS System

An existing VDS system, or a new one, can be adapted to perform this functionality. For systems with only 1 panel, in the following picture are shown the necessary connections to be done:

  • VDS bus from panel, connected to the Ref.2450 bus input (+, -, L), and coaxial cable (V, M) to the panel video input. Panel has to be configured as Slave using JP2.
  • “S” terminal from panel connected to Ref.2450 to activate the relay.
  • CVBS video output of the TBK DVR4104 Video recorder also connected to the Ref.2450 on the external video input (coaxial cable).
  • Monitors connected to VDS bus and, coaxial cable, from Ref.2450 Video Switcher video output.
  • Up to 4 cameras connected to the video recorder TBK DVR4104 (coaxial cable with BNC connectors).
  • VDS bus supplied by 18Vdc (panel, video switcher and monitors).
  • Video recorder supplied by 100-240VAC with included cable.
  • Each camera is fed by its own power supply.
  • Power supply quantities may vary in case of longer distances and number of monitors.

 

 

  1. MDS/VDS System

An existing MDS/VDS system, or a new one, can be adapted to perform this functionality. For systems with a maximum of 32 panels, in the following picture are shown the necessary connections to be done:

  • MDS panels connected to the MDS Central Unit Ref.2405 through a Panel Switcher Ref.2379.
  • MDS bus from Central Unit connected to Ref.2409 MDS/VDS decoder.
  • MDS Central Unit Video Output connected to the Ref.2450 on the panel video input (coaxial cable) (V, M).
  • VDS bus from panel, connected to the Ref.2450 bus input (+, -, L). Also, “S” terminal connected to activate the relay form Ref.2450.
  • CVBS video output of the TBK DVR4104 Video recorder also connected to the Ref.2450 on the external video input (coaxial cable).
  • Monitors connected to VDS bus and, coaxial cable, from Ref.2450 Video Switcher video output.
  • Up to 4 cameras connected to the video recorder TBK DVR4104 (coaxial cable with BNC connectors).
  • VDS bus supplied by 18Vdc (MDS/VDS decoder, video switcher and monitors).
  • Video recorder supplied by 100-240VAC with included cable.
  • Power supply quantities may vary in case of longer distances and number of monitors.

 

 

  1. External signal connected to Auxiliary Video Input in VDS Smile Monitor

There is the option to connect the external signal from the Video Recorder to the monitor and use it as a CCTV image. This external signal appears on the monitor when it is selected the CCTV option on the Menu. It also can be configured the auxiliary video input is automatically activated when a call is made by the doorbell:

  • Monitor connected to VDS bus and coaxial cable, from VDS installation.
    • CVBS video output of the TBK DVR4104 Video recorder connected to the auxiliary video input in VDS Smile Monitor.

 

 

  • How it works

After checking all devices are powered and connected correctly, it is time to proceed with the camera test:

  • Calling from the panel to the monitor (MDS, MDS/VDS and VDS installations).
    • Call from the panel to one monitor.
    • Answer the call and check the panel camera is working correctly.
    • Press the camera button on the monitor during 2 seconds before the conversation ends.
    • Check 4 cameras mosaic is shown in the monitor.
    • Press again the camera button during 2 seconds. Panel camera have to be shown again on the monitor. 
  • Auto On from the monitor (Only in pure VDS installations).
    • Push the camera button on the monitor.
    • 4 cameras mosaic have to be shown on the monitor.
    • Press the camera button on the monitor during 2 seconds.
    • Check panel camera is shown in the monitor.
  • Activation of the auxiliary video signal (CCTV) in Smile VDS monitors:
    • Enable parameters that are not enabled by default: Activation of the aerial camera (CCTV). Activate the icon with a “0” to be used with the Wildcard button.

 

 

  • It can be configured so that when a call is made by the doorbell, the auxiliary video input is automatically activated. The function Activation of the aerial camera with doorbell has to be enabled. It is a function that allows you to associate the doorbell with the activation of a timer for 30 seconds of an auxiliary video input. You can see the CCTV icon on the monitor´s screen, indicating that it is a CCTV.

 

 

  • To switch on the auxiliary video, there are 3 possibilities:
    • Pressing the Wildcard button.
    • Pressing menu button 4 seconds and select the CCTV icon.
    • If CCTV icon was set in the shortcuts menu, press menu button during 1 second and select the CCTV icon.
  • To switch off the auxiliary video, just press the menu button during 2 seconds and video will be off.
